The average worker in the United States now spends 8.5 hours of his or her day, sitting at their desk. In the UK, two thirds of office workers complain of “frequent aches or pains” in their work week, directly related to sitting at work. These aches and pains are directly linked to reduced productivity at work, to increase stress, and to increased number of sick days by employees.
The sad truth is that these aches and pains can be a prevented, and are very often a direct result of the way we sit and work at our desks – the way we sit, the way we type, the position of our screen, and our work habits. Many of the musculoskeletal problems we face in the office can be prevented with education of a better way of doing things, and with simple adjustments to the way we work. Office ergonomics is really about understanding how a person works, and what can be changed to reduce the stress on the body, and therefore reduce the chance of pain and chronic injuries in the future.
Radiance Physiofit offers a comprehensive corporate ergonomics service, to help companies help their employees to feel better, and therefore work better. This can be achieved through either individualized work-place assessments for employees at their desk, a general overview of a company’s work-space to provide recommendations to management, and/or through the provision of group talks to educate employees on the dangers of poor ergonomics, and some easy solutions to common issues.
